The swedish goverment (like most EU govs) put together their normal rescue crews right after the hurricane and the first thursday a C-130 was ready to fly mobile water filtration plants from Gothenburg to New Orleans.
They got turned away by the US state dept.
"We don't want to except any aid before we know what we need and where we need it"
Personally I wouldn't have cared if they sent the water filtration plants and then seen them lying in a aircraft hanger doing nothing.
I didn't get the "we don't need any help" when people were literally dying. That's until now, and it makes me feel like a fool for believing in the good in every human.
Goverment contracts are being handed out to the buddies of the administration, through former FEMA boss Joe Allbaugh & CO, and I finally understand why the foreign help wasn't that interesting, and I curse my naive thinking. It won't happen again
