Today
I saw that Ofcom pulled the latest Make Poverty History TV ad claiming that
"while Ofcom recognised the importance of the campaign, it considered
its political aims to be in breach of broadcast regulations"
If you don't know of Ofcom, maybe you're just not british or have no interest
in british broadcasting rules and regulations, and that's understandable.
If you don't know about Make Poverty History, well that's another story.
Under the ONE-umbrella, LIVE8 became the biggest political manifestation ever.
London, Edinburgh, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Philadelphia, Barrie, Tokyo, Johannesburg
and Moscow hosted the concerts while Gleneagles hosted the G8 leaders. The
point was to get the leaders to agree on increased aid to Africa, a continent
that has become poorer over the last ten years (!!).
All christian
churches are heavily involved in the ONE project and that is why I want, and
encourage, the christian right to use all it's media spinners to get this
issue out there. This is their core issue. I want them to use all their connections
and all of their "experts", the ones that we normally get to see
everytime a moral issue is on the table.
I want to see Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, who was in the ONE ads, on
Hannity&Colmes angry about the evil secularists in the mainstream media
not only pulling the ad but making fun of faith based activist Bono at the
same time.
I want angry op-eds on Townhall.com and WorldNetDaily and book tours... man,
don't get me started on the book tours.
Is it gonna happen?
I've seen to many talkshow hosts cutting off the christian as soon as they
start talking about the enviroment or poverty to know what the answer is.
It doesn't matter what network you watch, these issues simply don't make good
"TV-religion".
